'Pinch yourself if you want,' but Tool just officially confirmed the recording of their new album!
"Pinch yourself if you want, but I have been told that all systems are GO at this point for the upcoming sessions," the statement by the band says.
After a decade of waiting and speculation and much torture, Tool fans can finally rest easy. Tool's frontman, Maynard James Keenan has graciously offered their fans an update on the progress of their upcoming, endlessly rumored-about studio album.
At this point, we do realize that any new update on the Tool album is a little like the story of the boy who cried wolf, especially considering the fact that Maynard deleting the tweets about the new album caused a full-blown conspiracy theory among Tool fans on Reddit.
But in the band’s own words: “Pinch yourself if you want, but I have been told that all systems are GO at this point for the upcoming sessions.” And that is from the official statement the band issued on Facebook. The Facebook statement is also the first formal confirmation from the band that the much-awaited follow-up to '10,000 Days' is nearing completion. About time! We’ve nearly waited 5,000 days for it.
“After all the years of writing and arranging (and re-arranging) at the band’s loft, I can at this time officially report that the guys have moved into a major studio where the recording process for the next album is about to begin in earnest,” the statement notes.

The new album is being produced by Joe Barresi, who previously engineered and mixed the band’s 10,000 Days album as well as singer Maynard James Keenan’s side project Puscifer’s V is for Vagina. In February, Keenan, whose new album with A Perfect Circle is due April 20, tweeted a status report about Tool’s progress: “Words & Melodies 100% DONE on all but 1.”
Meanwhile, Tool has urged fans to "visit the individual band members' sites and socials (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) for more inside glimpses as Tool prepares for the next stage in their musical odyssey." You can do that here.
